BYO Slurpee is Back in Thailand! The 69 Baht “8-Inch Rule” Challenge (2026)

If you’ve spent more than five minutes walking the streets of Thailand, you know that the local 7-Eleven isn’t just a convenience store—it’s a air-conditioned sanctuary. And if you are an expat or a tourist looking to beat the brutal tropical humidity, the legendary Slurpee machine is the holy grail.

Well, dust off your biggest, weirdest containers, because 7-Eleven Thailand just dropped a massive announcement: The “Bring Your Own Slurpee” (BYOS) promotion is officially back!

For just 69 THB (roughly $2 USD), you can fill up almost any vessel you can carry with icy, sugary goodness. But before you show up at the register with a literal 5-gallon water jug, you need to understand the strict Thai rules, the catch with the dates, and how to actually find a machine that works.

Here is my honest, first-hand breakdown of how to win the 2026 BYO Slurpee challenge without embarrassing yourself in front of the staff.

The Rules: The 8-Inch Circle of Truth

Thai 7-Elevens are famously creative with their promos, but they aren’t foolish. To prevent people from bringing in hollowed-out watermelons or literal plastic storage bins, they have introduced the 8-inch rule.

Here is exactly how the game is played:

  • The Dimension Limit: Your container must be able to fit completely through an 8-inch (approx. 20 cm) circular cardboard cutout held by the staff. If it catches on the edges or is too wide, it’s disqualified.
  • The Height/Depth Limit: Technically, there isn’t a strict height limit mentioned, but it has to be practical enough to physically fit under the dispenser nozzle. A 3-foot PVC pipe isn’t going to bend under the machine!
  • The Employee Veto: The rules explicitly state the container must pass staff inspection. If it looks leaky, unhygienic, or structurally dangerous to their clean floors, they will politely say no.
  • The Price: A flat 69 THB, regardless of how much liquid your approved container actually holds.

When and Where Can You Do This?

Don’t rush out the door just yet. If you turn up on a Tuesday afternoon, you’ll end up paying standard prices per cup.

📅 The Timeline: The promotion runs every Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.

The Real Challenge: Finding a Working Machine

As I’ve written about extensively on this blog, finding a 7-Eleven in Thailand that actually still has a Slurpee machine is becoming a sport. Many modern stores have phased them out in favor of the manned All Café counters.

Don’t waste your weekend wandering around randomly. 7-Eleven Thailand has provided an official branch locator for this exact promo. You can check the active stores here: 7-Eleven BYOS Store List.

Alternative Expat Hack: Open your 7-Eleven TH app, go to the map feature, hit the filter toggle, and check the box for “Slurpee” to see live, local store capabilities near you.

My Honest Review & Strategy for Expats

Is this promo worth it? Absolutely—if you approach it like a fun weekend challenge.

If you just want a quick drink, paying the standard 19–32 THB for a normal cup is cleaner, faster, and won’t give you a mild panic attack at the counter. But if you want to maximize your 69 Baht, here is my strategic advice:

1. The Ideal Container

Skip the wide mixing bowls (they won’t pass the 8-inch circle). Instead, look for tall, vacuum-insulated thermoses (like a large Yeti tumbler or a giant Hydro Flask) or large plastic blender pitchers. As long as the diameter is under 8 inches, height is your friend. Plus, an insulated flask will actually keep the Slurpee from turning into warm juice within 4 minutes of walking out into the Thai heat.

2. The Slurpee Settle

Thai Slurpee machines can be incredibly carbonated and foamy. When filling a massive container, pour slowly and tap the bottom of the container gently on the drip tray to let the air bubbles escape. If you rush it, half your container will be frozen air that melts into nothingness by the time you get home.

3. Flavor Mixing

Most Thai stores carry classic Coca-Cola alongside local favorites like Fanta Strawberry (the iconic Red Fanta) or seasonal fruit mixes. If you’re filling a giant jug, I highly recommend doing a 50/50 split of Coke and Red Fanta. It sounds chaotic, but the sweet strawberry cuts the cola perfectly.

The Verdict

The BYO Slurpee promo is a brilliant piece of marketing and a genuinely fun way to save a few Baht if you have a high sugar tolerance or a family to feed. Just measure your container at home first, keep it clean, and make sure you show up on a weekend!
